Hi Tom,

We are tweaking up the rules and will post them on the website shortly. Colin has compiled a turnpoint database of the peaks and we will either publish them and/or get them on the turnpoint exchange. We are leaning towards a FAI radius. If the peak is obscured you may have to try another day....

Thanks for listening,
Doug
One thing you didn't mention in the 14er challenge is how close one must get to the peak. Even if flying directly over the top, it's unlikely my flight trace will pass *precisely* over the peak's coordinates.

I see two choices here:

1) set it up as a turnpoint and use the FAI 0.5km radius centered on the peak

2) allow for a greater distance but require the pilot to go "around" the peak. Perhaps cloudbase or thermals are just not high enough to get within a half kilometer. But if the pilot flies within perhaps a couple kilometers and the peak is circumscribed by the flight path as determined by a judging panel.

Keep up the good work.

-Tom

Hi guys,

listening to your podcast on the 14er challenge and the olc in particular, I'd like to bring to your attention a relatively new piece of software. It's called flight replay and hooks an igc file into Google Earth. And no! it's not the representation of igc data on the Google Earth maps with the option to " play the tour" ie to animate the trace. Flight replay lets you view the flight from the cockpit with several options. It's windows-only, so I saw only a couple of screen shots from flights in the Swiss and French Alps and all I can say is WOW! Spectacular!

Here's the URL to the website - it's a free download

http://ywtw.de/igcsimen.html

Have fun

and get those 14ers!

Wolf

Chaps - the link to vimeo.com (the first one under the Episode 4) is busted (reads as http://www.behindtheyawstring.com/vimeo.com, which doesn't work. Nice job on episode 4, by the way.
